(RNN) - A Nevada teenager was awarded Wendy's chicken nuggets for a year after breaking Twitter's all-time record for retweets.
Carter Wilkerson was retweeted more than 3.4 million times, breaking the record held by Ellen DeGeneres.
Wilkerson set out to break the record after asking Wendy's how many retweets he would need to receive a free year's supply of chicken nuggets. The restaurant chain set the bar ridiculously high: 18 million.

The teenager fell short despite breaking the record, appearing on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show and receiving the help from brands like Apple Music, Google and Microsoft.
He was rewarded for his efforts anyway.
.@carterjwm is now the most retweeted tweet of all-time. That’s good for the nuggets, and $100k to @DTFA. Consider it done. #nuggsforcarter pic.twitter.com/k6uhsJiP4E

Alongside the year's supply of chicken nuggets, Wendy's is also donating $100,000 to The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
