SKYWAY, WASHINGTON (KIRO/CNN) - A Washington teenager's actions ended up burning his parent's vehicle to a crisp after an errant Roman candle landed in the cab.
The teenager drove his parent's SUV without permission to buy fireworks.
According to authorities, the teen and some of his friends were celebrating Independence Day by shooting Roman candles at one another. One of the fireworks landed in the SUV and started a fire.
Firefighters put out the flames and said the incident could have been much worse.
"This absolutely could have been not just a car fire but exposures to two homes that were nearby," said Dave Nelson, a spokesman from the Skyway Fire Department.
No one was hurt in the fire and the parents are not pressing charging.
