CLAYTON, MISSOURI (KTVI/CNN) - While many of her classmates are busy soaking up rays at the pool, a Missouri teenager is making it easier for them to protect their skin.

Lynly Brennan, 16, launched an initiative to provide free sunscreen at local pools. She not only pitched the idea, but also raised the funds to make it happen.

Thanks to Brennan there is a sunscreen dispenser at the Shaw Park Aquatic Center in Clayton, Missouri.

"I thought if I got the funding it'd be easy," she said. "I sent 43 letters to local dermatologists, local pool patrons and local people who I thought would really enjoy this idea."

People can find relief from the sun at the poolside, so long as they have protection.

"If you apply 30 SPF and wear it regularly, it actually decreases your chance of getting skin cancer by 80 percent, which is amazing," Brennan said.

She raised roughly $1,600 to have dispensers installed at five pools.
