BELLEVUE, NE (KETV/CNN) - The video is tough to watch. It’s even tougher for the mother of the boy getting hit.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said the 14-year-old victim’s mother, Kuuleilani, who on Monday first saw the video of the brutal attack of her son. “It really hurts. It’s horrible.”
The clip, posted to social media Sunday, shows four people repeatedly hitting and kicking a teen, then walking away with his chain.
Kuuleilani said she knew her son, a freshman at Bellevue East. got into some sort of fight back on Sept. 29. But she had no idea it looked like what’s shown in the video.
“His eyebrows were a little swollen and stuff like that. He just downplayed it, said it wasn’t a big deal,” she said.
Bellevue Police say it’s definitely serious. Investigators got their hands on the video Monday morning and immediately worked to identify those involved.
“There could be assault charges filed against all the individuals involved, possibly some conspiracy charges,” said Bellevue Police Laurie Synowiecki. “It really just depends on the information that’s discovered during this investigation.”
It’s still unclear who was recording the video, but the victim’s mother said there should be consequences for everyone involved.
“I would like them all to apologize to my son and return his chain,” she said.
One of the people involved in the attack contacted KETV and said the incident began after the teen reportedly made rude comments to girls from school. The beating victim, who also spoke to the station, said he recognizes that he said some things he shouldn’t have, but doesn’t think he deserved to “get jumped.”
