KNOXVILLE, TN (WATE/CNN) - What kind of swimsuit is too revealing for a family-friendly swimming pool?
“It was like, degrading over all, and I left crying,” said Tori Jenkins, who was asked to leave a pool area because of her swimwear. Jenkins and her fiance, Tyler Newman, were lounging at the pool at the Smoky Crossing apartment complex, where they live.
Jenkins was wearing a pink bathing suit she bought from Forever 21 when she was approached by a leasing office staff member.
“She said, ‘You cannot be at that pool in that bathing suit,’” Jenkins said. The staff member told her she had to put on shorts or be in the pool where no one could see her. Jenkins decided to speak to someone at the office. But there, things only got worse.
“She just basically told me that if I didn’t have kids, I wouldn’t understand, and if her kids were at the pool, she wouldn’t want them around me in that bathing suit,” Jenkins said. The woman also told Jenkins she looked inappropriate and that there were a lot of teenage boys around the pool that she didn’t "need to be exciting."
Jenkins said she saw nothing inappropriate about her one-piece swimsuit. Newman posted about their experience on Facebook and included pictures. Since then, a different photo of Jenkins in the swimsuit surfaced on social media. Newman took to his Facebook page to address the photo.
He wrote, “This was on a completely different day, and she was about to slide into the pool when this picture was taken...There were three other people at the pool...And this still isn’t even inappropriate.”
Jenkins and Newman said they have reached out to the company that owns the complex but have not heard back.
