STRANGNAS, SWEDEN (CNN) - A Swedish crown and other belongings from Karl IV and Queen Kristina have been stolen in Strangnas, Sweden.

Swedish police are conducting a manhunt after thieves sped off with priceless 17th century royal jewels from a cathedral in Stockholm Tuesday and escaped in a speedboat, police said in a statement.

Police patrol boats and helicopters were deployed in the search for the perpetrators who stole two crowns and an orb from the 1611 funeral regalia of King Karl IX and his wife Kristina.

A witness told the Swedish evening newspaper Aftonbladet that he sat at lunch when he saw two people running, jump in a boat and then take off, CNN's affiliate Expressen reported.
