(RNN) - A suspected poacher was mauled to death and eaten by a pack of lions at a private park in South Africa, according to AFP news agency.
The victim’s remains were found over the weekend in the bushes near Kruger National Park in the northern province of Limpopo.
Animals have been poached in growing numbers over recent years.
"It seems the victim was poaching in the game park when he was attacked and killed by lions," Limpopo police spokesman Moatshe Ngoepe told AFP. "They ate his body, nearly all of it, and just left his head and some remains."
Authorities also found a loaded hunting rifle was found near the body and police are trying to establish the victim's identity.
Lion body parts are used in traditional medicine.
