A cat that had a firecracker set off in her rectum, is now recovering at a local animal hospital.

Good Samaritans brought the animal to the Humane Society of Richland County this past weekend.

Humane society officials say the cat had been living as a stray in the PineBridge apartment complex at 135 E. Cook Road.

The cat, named Katy P., had emergency surgery at Phillips Animal Hospital in Mansfield.

Officials say they can't say for certain what her prognosis is, until they know if she is able to defecate.

If you would like to donate to the cat's care, you can contact Phillips Animal Hospital or the Humane Society of Richland County.

Nobody has been arrested for this crime.
