NEW YORK (WCBS/CNN) - A 5-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a stray bullet on Monday.
A suspect, Michael Quiles, 27, was arrested on Tuesday in the shooting of Jaheem Hunter. He was charged with attempted murder.
WCBS said Quiles has spent time behind bars. Neighbors are writing notes of good will on the sidewalk in front of the boy’s home.
Police say the boy was walking out of his apartment building about 5 p.m. when shots were fired nearby in an argument over a drug deal.
The boy is in critical condition, WCBS reports.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted about the tragedy on Monday.
Absolutely heartbreaking. The city's prayers are with him and the doctors working to save his life. https://t.co/82nsF0CiaP
