(RNN) - Police say a suspect mocked a man with cerebral palsy as he walked into a store and then punched the victim as he got into his car to leave.

Barry Baker, 29, has been arrested and charged with assault in the incident that took place on May 10, in West Chester, PA, at a 7-Eleven, WTXF reports.

The victim, 22, was ridiculed for the way he walked into the store, police say surveillance video shows. Once the victim left the business, Baker talked to him and imitated the man, and when the victim stopped in front of his car, Baker hit him in the face, the report said.

“The defendant’s actions in this case are appalling. You wonder what would make an individual treat somebody like that,” West Chester Police Chief Scott Bohn told WTXF.

Baker, from Coatesville,  left the store after hitting the man, police said. A preliminary hearing is set for May 30 for Baker.
