BALTIMORE (WJZ/CNN) -  Police have arrested a driver who crashed his car at Baltimore-Washington International Airport.

He rammed the vehicle through a security gate on Saturday afternoon on one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, an alarming breach of security at BWI Thurgood-Marshall Airport.

Andrew John Kottke, 42, has been detained for driving through a security fence at BWI Airport.

Maryland’s Transportation Authority said he ran through a closed security gate at signature flight support, mostly used for private and charter planes.

Commercial flight passengers were just feet away as Transportation Police arrested the suspect, now being questioned by local and federal authorities.

"This is still a very active investigation at this time. So we don't really have much more information to go on, as the investigators go into the reason why the individual did drive onto the, through the security gate,” said Lt. Kevin Ayd of the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.

Investigators say the incident is not terrorism-related. Commercial flights at the airport were not affected.
