(CNN) - When you check out at your favorite warehouse club store, you expect the bill to be high.
But you should be saving money in the long run, right?
According to a new study, when shopping at warehouse clubs, you actually spend more money on packaged foods than if you simply stuck to traditional grocery stores.
The study says that you'll spend about 5 percent more at warehouse club stores.
But the bad news doesn't stop there: you also consume 8 percent more calories and spend 15 percent more time shopping.
But if you plan your shopping trips carefully, experts say you can buck these trends.
They say you should avoid frequent visits to justify the annual membership fee and avoid impulse purchases, sticking only to what you need.
