YANCEY COUNTY NC (WLOS/CNN) - Prom season is underway, and one North Carolina student went the extra mile in making her "prom-posal" special for a friend she's known since they were toddlers.
Ben Robinson was asked to prom by his longtime friend Rachel Newberry, and it was It's a prom proposal that tugs at the heart strings.
"I don't remember a time when I wasn't friends with Ben."
Newberry’s friends handed out flowers to him one by one he entered the auditorium to the song, ‘You've got a friend in me.’
Newberry said she wanted to do something big and special for Robinson because it was what she says he deserved.
Newberry said a lot of planning went into the moment and at first, she wasn't sure how she was going to ask.
But, Newberry said she has known for years who she would take to the prom.
"Yeah. I've been saying since elementary school I wanted to take Ben to my senior prom,"
The video was posted online to share with other community members who love Robinson as much as Newberry does.
The two said they are excited for prom, and Newberry said she is happy the whole world gets to see Robinson's smile.
"To see so many people around the world who don't know him personally who become happy seeing him happy, it's just beautiful," said Newberry.
The prom is on May 19 and the two already have their outfits picked out.
