CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (KRIS/CNN) – A Texas pizza store manager protected a pregnant employee after a masked man pulled a knife on her and demanded money then a pizza.
Authorities say a masked man walked into a Little Caesar’s in Corpus Christi, TX, Sunday. The suspect, who is believed to be homeless, pulled a knife on an employee who is 38 weeks pregnant.
The restaurant’s manager, Alejandro Flores, says he was working when he saw the man walk in, but he quickly shielded the woman to keep her safe.
When the suspect demanded money, Flores said he wouldn’t open the cash register.
"And he said, 'If you're not going to give me the money, at least give me the pizza,’” Flores said.
Flores agreed and gave the man a “Hot and Ready” pepperoni pizza.
“And I said, 'Yes, sir, if you get out of my store. I have a pregnant lady in here, and she's almost due,’” Flores said. “And he got out of the store, and I just handed him pizza."
The suspect then ran off and hasn’t been seen since the incident.
Flores says at the time, he wasn’t worried about himself but about his employee and her baby. It was the woman’s last day before going on maternity leave.
If the situation were to happen again, Flores says he’d likely hand over the money to quickly get the robber out of the store.
Police are searching for the suspect.
