LAKEWOOD, CO (KDVR/CNN) – A therapy dog is back home after being away for more than three weeks.
A pit bull named Mia, who provides emotional support to cancer patients, was taken from her owner after he was carjacked.
A good Samaritan helped Mia find her way home to her owner, Daren Schook, who thought he’d never see her again.
"It's like, what a miracle to get her back. I feel whole," Schook said.
Schook was carjacked in a parking lot with Mia in the backseat
"I was slow, and I've been beating myself up that I was slow and didn't respond quicker," Schook said.
Schook took to Facebook, and his post about Mia was shared thousands of times.
Meanwhile, Jon Peters spotted Mia and took her in.
"A friend saw her get pushed out of a car at 38th and Wadsworth," Peters said.
Peters was modest about his willingness to help.
"I'm just doing what had to be done,” Peters said. “I'm glad we all won. We all win today."
Schook said he’s grateful for everyone who took part in hanging up a flier or sharing the story to bring Mia back home.
"I feel complete now,” Schook said. “It's like my routine, our routine. And I wouldn't be where I'm at. She makes me a better person."
