Spielberg says he's not happy with Carl's Jr.'s 'Spielburgers'

(CNN) - Carl's Jr.'s plan to rename one of its burgers in honor of Steven Spielberg has come to a crashing halt.

The fast food chain's ad from Monday announced the "Spielburger." At the end, it says, "Pending approval from Steven Spielberg. But we're pretty sure he'll be cool with it."

The promotion comes as Spielberg's movie "Ready Player One" opens in theaters this week.

But the legendary director said he wasn't cool with it. Spielberg posted a video to Twitter on Tuesday responding to Carl's Jr.

"Hey there, it's recently come to my attention that Carl's Jr. wants to rename their charbroiled sliders Spielburgers," he says. "They're pretty good, but I'm passing. Cease and desist. You can't do it. Sorry guys."

It may all be a ploy for more attention, but Carl's Jr. has taken it in stride if it's not. The company has since come up with a new ad.

"Spielburgers - not coming soon to Carl's Jr.," the ad says. "But you can totally see the movie yourself. It's now playing in like every theater. So, you know, you should probably go."
