SUTTER CREEK, CA (KTXL/CNN) - A special education teacher is suspected of being drunk in the classroom.
According to the school district, one of Marc Yonan's students at Amador High School came to the office on Monday, complaining about his behavior.
Several administrators went to Yonan's classroom and immediately suspected he'd been drinking alcohol.
He was arrested and faces charges of disorderly conduct, child cruelty and two counts of assault and battery on school property.
Students and parents are in disbelief after hearing about the teacher's arrest.
"I would never expect that from him," said Brett Gibney, a senior. "I thought it was really crazy because first of all, he's always friendly to everybody I knew. Everyone just really seemed to like him."
"He always seemed like a really nice guy, but I've never had a class with him," said Hunter Bailey, a senior.
"It's unacceptable for a teacher. He's supposed to be setting an example," parent Dutch Green said. "This is not OK by any means, absolutely, and anything like that needs to be handled quickly and properly for the benefit of the kids."
The district attorney's office is expected to announce on Wednesday if the teacher will be prosecuted.
