(CNN) - Sen. John McCain is in the hospital after experiencing side effects from his cancer therapy. McCain was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain tumor, in July.

It's the same type of tumor that proved fatal for Sen. Ted Kennedy and Beau Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden.

Since his diagnosis, the Arizona Republican has been receiving treatment. In a statement, the senator's office said McCain is now dealing with normal side effects from that treatment.

He's now being cared for at Walter Reed Medical Center. A spokesperson says the Arizona Republican "looks forward to returning to work as soon as possible."
