(CNN/RNN) - Serena Williams took to Twitter Monday to tell fellow tennis great John McEnroe she doesn’t care about how he thinks she would fare on the men’s tour.
In an NPR interview Sunday, McEnroe called Williams “the best female player ever,” but added that her victory streak would be “an entirely different story” if she were to take on male competitors.
McEnroe said if Williams was on the men’s tour, she would be “like 700 in the world.”
Williams summed up her opinion in a couple of simple tweets on Monday afternoon:
Dear John, I adore and respect you but please please keep me out of your statements that are not factually based.

I've never played anyone ranked "there" nor do I have time. Respect me and my privacy as I'm trying to have a baby. Good day sir

Serena Williams has collected 23 grand slam titles, putting her only one major away from snagging all-time leader Margaret Court’s title. In his career, McEnroe won seven major titles.
McEnroe said in some sports, “A woman can be better than anybody,” but that he hasn’t seen it yet. He went on to say that it may be possible at some point.
