(RNN) - Hollywood loves itself some remakes, prequels and sequels.
"Spider-Man: Homecoming," which will be released next month, will feature the third actor to play the web-slinger in standalone movies since 2002, when Tobey Maguire starred in "Spider-Man."
How many times must Uncle Ben die? Who knows.
2017 so far has been peppered with sequels, including the ill-received "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," "Transformers: The Last Night," "Logan" and "The Fate of the Furious."
And the year is only half over.
In addition to the new Spider-Man, more sequels are on tap for the rest of the year, including a "Justice League" addition to the DC universe, a new Star Trek TV series, a new Madea movie, and "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," the eighth movie in the main Star Wars storyline.
Like the Terminator, so many intellectual properties refuse to die, rising like a shiny cyborg from the smelter.
Speaking of the Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger holds out hope that there may be more sequels in the works even though Paramount Pictures declined to pick up the franchise for a planned two sequels earlier this year.
"Just because Paramount doesn't want to pick up the Terminator franchise, you have 15 other studios willing to do it - that doesn't mean the Terminator franchise is finished, right? It just means they are on their way to negotiate with another studio, but I can't give you the details of that,' he told Fandango in April.
