RICHMOND, CA (KPIX/CNN) – It turns out a man who killed himself during a traffic stop in northern California was a San Francisco police officer. Richmond Police said an officer pulled over Antonio Cacatian in a mall parking lot on Monday afternoon.
The responding officer heard a gunshot, and went back to the patrol car to call for backup. Cacatian was found dead inside the car.
Law enforcement sources say Cacatian was being investigated for having sex with a minor in Las Vegas. Authorities say he was on the force for nine years.
Richmond Police and the Contra Costa County district attorney's office have opened investigations into the death.
