ORLANDO (WESH/CNN) - A hot air balloon carrying 17 people made an unplanned landing in a pond on Monday, prompting screams and then thankfulness that nobody was seriously injured.
Initial laughs about getting wet turned to screams as the balloon hit the water, said Sebastian Westerby, a passenger. He pulled his girlfriend out from under the balloon as it sat atop the water.
“It got scary real fast,” he said. Wind forced the balloon to land in a retention pond.
“The balloon tilted, the basket tilted, people got underneath the plastic and then that is when it got serious,” he said. All the passengers were able to make it to safety.
