(CNN) - Republican Rep. Tom Rooney said, former White House communications director, Hope Hicks' admission to telling "white lies" for the president is proof the Russia investigation should end.
Rep. Rooney serves on the House Intelligence Committee.
Hicks made the statements on Tuesday while testifying in front of the committee.
She announced on Wednesday, that she is resigning from her role as communications director.
She did not cite testimony as the reason for her decision, but Rooney said he is sure it played a role.
Rooney told CNN’s Erin Burnett, he believes the only purpose of the investigation now, is to drive the media narrative for Democrats.
"Tonight, I’ve asked our chairman Conaway that we need to end this investigation. It's been going on for a year,” said Rooney. “We've interviewed scores of witnesses and now we've gotten to the point now where we're literally bringing people in for nine hours just so the democrats can leak to the press, something as ridiculous as 'white lies.'”
Rooney also points out that Hicks said she never lied about anything substantive.
