HOUSTON (KTRK/CNN) - A man is found partially decapitated in the parking lot of a Houston apartment. The victim has been identified as a refugee.
Through the help of a translator, the brother of 25-year-old Byiringiro Mupenzi said they came to America in November 2012, fleeing from the Congo, hoping for a better life. Mupenzi lived at the Santa Clara apartments with his mother who is heartbroken.
"She can't even speak. She's so sad. She can't even speak," said Nganizi Kashima, the victim's brother.
Mupenzi's killing is bizarre. Neighbors heard him scream for help around 1:30 a.m. Monday, on the backside of the property nowhere near his home. They found him naked with a massive cut to his neck, almost beheaded.
"He's cut. Cut here. He's cut,” said Mohammed al Quraishi, an eyewitness. Mohammed al Quraishi's son first spotted Mupenzi. He says he didn't see anyone fleeing. "I see in a window. I see a person on the ground, face up. No clothes," he said.
Houston police detectives say they found blood in Mupenzi's car. They towed it away and are looking for evidence. The victim’s brother said he doesn't know if anyone would want his brother dead. "I know he was a friend for everybody, so there isn’t any reason why," he said.
There are cameras inside the complex. Houston police are working with management to see if they caught anything.
