(CNN) - A fireworks recall was issued days before the Independence Day holiday.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled more than 36,000 units of the TNT Red, White, & Blue Smoke Fireworks after reports that some of the devices exploded unexpectedly when lit.

The fireworks were sold in a bag containing three canisters: one red, one blue and one white. Each firework is a cardboard cylinder tube about 1 inch in diameter and 5 inches long. The UPC number 027736036561 appears on the packaging.
The fireworks were being sold at various vendors, including Walmart, Kroger and Meijer in Illinois, Ohio, Vermont and Wisconsin from May through June.
