MIAMI (CNN) – Cell phone video captured the confrontation between the suspect in a hit-and-run and witnesses to the crime over the weekend.
The driver tried to get away after hitting other vehicles, but witnesses weren’t having it. Several people made a mad dash into traffic to stop the driver from escaping in his badly damaged car.
The video shows the witnesses yelling at the driver to stop, pounding on his car and trying to open the doors.
The driver managed to pull away onto another street, where the crowd followed.
One person pulled out a sledgehammer and began breaking the windows.
Twenty-five-year-old Maxwell Lagutenko was later arrested. He faces charges of fleeing and eluding police, leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage and reckless driving.
He might have been high on narcotics, according to an arrest report.
