RAW: Teacher to donate kidney to father of student

MASON CITY, IA (KIMT/CNN) -  A preschool teacher in Iowa is giving an unforgettable gift to one of her students. Nancey Bleurer, also known as "Miss Nancey," is donating her kidney to a child's dad.

Darreld Peterson was born with renal kidney failure, and is in need of a life-saving kidney transplant. After getting tests done,  his son's teacher found out she was a match, and agreed to continue the process.

"I remembered on my bucket list that I've wanted to do this. You don't think about it every day but I just kind of remembered, oh yeah that's on the list,” Bleuer said.

"I was shocked; I wasn't shocked it was going to happen because she's such a determined woman. From day one she's like this is happening,” Petersen said. Surgery is scheduled for the first week of June.

Peterson said he has always valued the role teachers played in his life and his son's life. Now he has extra reason to be thankful.
