RAW: Renovations to White House underway

Posted

WASHINGTON, DC (CNN) -  While President Donald Trump vacations in New Jersey, construction crews are busy doing major renovations at the White House.

The project at the West Wing includes work on the Oval Office. Workers will also replace the heating and air conditioning systems.

According to the New York Times, the overhaul will cost taxpayers about  $3.4 million.

Outgoing Press Secretary Sean Spicer gave reporters a tour of the White House on Friday, showing some of the around-the-clock repair work. The project was approved during the Obama administration. New carpet, curtains and paint are part of the work that is going on in just a part of the White House.

West Wing staff not  accompanying the president had to move out of their offices.

Only a part of the building's 132 rooms and six floors are seeing work, CNN reported.
