(CNN) - America's oldest World War II veteran is battling pneumonia. Richard Overton is currently at Saint David's Hospital in Austin, TX.
The 111-year-old man has pneumonia in both lungs. In 1942, Overton became a member of the Army's 188th Aviation Engineer Battalion, an all-black unit that served on various islands in the Pacific.
In 2013, he was honored by then-President Barack Obama during a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. Overton's family says they don't know how long he will be in the hospital, and they ask for prayers.
