HIALEAH, FL (WSVN/CNN) - A man accused of cutting off his aunt's head appeared before a South Florida judge on Thursday. He will be staying in jail for now as the judge denied him bond.
"There is probable cause for the charge of second degree murder and abusing a dead human body. Count one is no bond and we'll make a finding of proof evident presumption great. There's also probable cause for count two. I'm actually going to set the bond on count two at $100,000,” said Judge Mindy Glazer of Miami-Dade County.
The body and head of Silvia Karina Castillo were found by an employee in a Hialeah Trash Collection Center on Monday. Police say Castillo's nephew, 27-year-old Edwin Ramirez-Mejia, confessed to decapitating her.
Police say he told them they had gotten into an argument that turned violent. Besides the second-degree murder charge, Castillo is charged with abuse of a corpse.
