NEW YORK (NY 1/CNN) - A freshly-minted police officer took an oath and then took a knee.
Just minutes after being sworn in, 30-year-old Phillip Santana surprised his girlfriend Jennifer Guzman with a proposal at the theater at Madison Square Garden. He staged the proposal pretending to be interviewed for a TV segment.
Santana was asked to spell his name and that of his "fiancee." Guzman was confused, and then her boyfriend revealed a ring, and got down on one knee.
Guzman promptly started crying before saying yes.
The couple then lifted up 2-year-old son Alexander, and embraced as a family. Santana and Guzman have been together for five years.
How does the officer feel? "I'm on cloud nine right now. This is the best day of my life,” he said.
She seemed to be surprised. “I'm speechless," Guzman said. Was she expecting the proposal? "No, not at all," she said.
