OSSENDRECHT, NETHERLANDS (NOS/CNN) - After over a year of trying to use eagles to intercept drones that posed an attack or accident threat, police in the Netherlands decided it wasn't such a great idea after all.
Authorities are now dropping the program that was introduced over one year ago, Dutch broadcaster NOS reported.
The birds were supposed to spring into action like an eagle did in a video from 2016. But, police say, the eagles wouldn't always do what they were trained to do, casting doubt on how they would perform in a real-life scenario.
The Netherlands is now looking for alternative ways to police unauthorized drones.
