WESTFIELD, MA (WWLP/CNN) - A funeral was held Monday for the fire chief of Montgomery County, MA. Chief Stephen Frye died after collapsing while battling a house fire last week.
Frye was a member of the volunteer fire department for nearly 25 years, and served as chief for 17 years. He leaves behind a wife and two adult children.
One of his sons is also a firefighter and was working alongside his dad when he collapsed. It's unclear exactly what caused Frye's death.
It's also unknown what caused the fire he was fighting. Frye was 59.
