MAMMOTH LAKES, CA (CNN) - The California mountains have been seeing a lot of precipitation this week thanks to a narrow band of high moisture coming from the Pacific Ocean.
When stuck in one place, the so-called atmospheric 'rivers' can cause major flooding and snow storms. Earlier this week northern California saw a flash flood warning and West Coast mountains are getting some serious snowfall.
The National Weather Service predicts multiple feet of accumulation before the system moves on. Some ski resorts in Lake Tahoe are currently experiencing blizzard conditions but hope to open for the weekend.
Further south, Mammoth Mountain has reported more than 30 inches snow, and expect another 18 inches before it's over.
