LAVERNE, CA (KTLA/CNN) - Wildlife officials shot a bear with tranquilizer darts after it was hit by a car on the 210 Freeway on Monday.
The 300-pound wounded bear made it to a nearby embankment after being struck. Police closed a ramp to the freeway while the authorities pursued the bear. After California Fish and Wildlife officials shot the bear with a tranquilizer, it tried to run away.
They had to shoot the animal a second time to subdue it. The bear was later euthanized due to its injuries, KTLA reports. Injuries included a broken leg and dislocated ankle, the report said.
