MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (SEVEN NETWORK/CNN) - One man has been killed and three policemen injured after a standoff at an apartment building in suburban Melbourne on Monday afternoon.
According to a statement from Victoria Police, a woman was being held hostage in a Brighton apartment. Brighton is a suburb in eastern Melbourne. Police said they were still determining if the incident was terrorism related.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene to find a man dead on the floor of the lobby from a gunshot, shortly after 4 p.m. local time. A woman was being held against her will, police said, by a second man. Police attempted to negotiate with the suspect but eventually he was shot dead before 6 p.m., about two hours later.
Three police officers received non life-threatening injuries during the incident, two of whom were taken to hospital. Roads around the area were closed throughout the standoff and will remain closed for the moment, police say.
