YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK (CNN) - A $10,000 reward is being offered to find whomever illegally shot a rare white wolf in Yellowstone National Park.

The 12-year-old wolf was one of only three known white wolves in the park.

Investigators believe someone on Yellowstone's north side near Gardner, MT, illegally shot the alpha female on either April 10 or 11.

Hikers found the wolf with extreme injuries, and park officials euthanized her due to the severity of the wounds.

The National Park Service and Center for Biological Diversity are each offering $5,000 for information related to the shooting.
