LOS ANGELES (KABC) - Community activists gathered in Los Angeles on Monday to protest a jail expansion plan that critics say could cost $3.5 billion.
Protesters wore orange prison shirts with the words "I am not the property of LA county jail."
They set up 100 jail beds that one activist said represent "trauma, torture, isolation, shame and death."
Launching the "Justice LA" campaign, they called for jail construction funds to be redirected to community services and incarceration alternatives.
