Protesters call for Russia investigation

(CNN) - Thousands of anti-Donald Trump protesters from coast to coast participated in the "March for Truth" on Saturday.

Organizers of the March for Truth are calling for an independent commission to investigate Russian interferences in the 2016 presidential election and for possible ties to Trump himself. They also want Congress to force Trump to release his tax returns.

The protests come ahead of testimony by former FBI director James Comey to the Senate Intelligence Committee scheduled for June 8.

"It has to be a transparent investigation because the people need to know the truth," political activist Linda Sarsour said.

The protesters weren't alone, however. Supporters of the president also held a rally outside the White House to back to president's decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris agreement on climate change.

The "Pittsburgh not Paris" rally took its name from the president's statement on the withdrawal that he was elected to "represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris."

Trump said the decision was to support American workers.

"We wanted to come out and show our appreciation for what the president's done following through on his campaign promise," one supporter said.

Despite facing global disapproval, Trump said he was open to renegotiating aspects of the agreement. European leaders say that's not an option.
