HAMBURG (CNN) – German riot police have clashed with protesters in Hamburg on Thursday evening as world leaders arrived ahead of Friday's G-20 summit.  There has been at least one arrest, and dozens of police officers injured during protests.

Police used water cannons as protesters threw smoke bombs. Police estimate around 8,000 protesters took part in Thursday's demonstration.

Larger numbers are expected for protests on Friday and on Saturday. Officers clashed with demonstrators at an anti-capitalist protest.

The demonstration is happening about 2 miles from where the G-20 summit is taking place. President Donald Trump arrived in Hamburg earlier Thursday following a visit to Warsaw, Poland.
