WEST CHESTER, OH (RNN) - A chiropractor allegedly assaulted his 3-month-old daughter, causing 28 fractures, because he resented her being born a girl, prosecutor David Fornshell said.
Police arrested Jason Bittner last week at his chiropractic office in West Chester, OH, after a grand jury indicted him on felony assault and child endangering charges, WXIX reported.
The prosecutor said Bittner, 33, was disappointed the girl was not a boy and was "fussy," which contributed to the abuse. The alleged assault happened at the family's home.
"No medical treatment was sought for the child despite the fact that Mr. Bittner obviously had medical training," Fornshell said.
Physicians said the baby had traumatic brain injuries and 28 rib fractures in various stages of healing. Authorities said the injuries weren't consistent with the father's claim that there was some sort of accident.
Bittner is expected to appear in court at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Bittner and his wife Casey have two daughters and are both chiropractors who practice at the same office.
