Profane message targeting Trump got expanded for sheriff

RICHMOND, TX (KTRK/CNN) - The Texas driver of the truck with a profane message for President Donald Trump has added one for the sheriff who arrested her.

Karen Fonseca is making no apologies for her anti-Trump expletives and now Sheriff Troy Nehls has gotten the same treatment.

"Troy Nehls didn't think twice when he put the Facebook post up and exposed me and my family," Fonseca said. "We're getting more positive than negative, but at the same time I feel it was gone about the wrong way and the sticker is appropriate."

The original message said "F---- Trump and f--- you for voting for him." The new message next to it carries the same directive for Nehls, though it is a little smaller in size.

Nehls posted a picture of the truck and its profane message to Facebook and said his department was searching for the driver after receiving calls from other drivers who were offended by the display. He threatened to arrest her on a disorderly conduct charge.

Once Fonseca was identified, the sheriff's Facebook post was taken down.

But the saga didn’t end there. Fonseca was arrested, but not for the anti-Trump message. The sheriff's department uncovered an outstanding warrant for her on a fraud charge.

Her attorney, Brian Middleton, said the public shaming was inappropriate.

"I think it's ludicrous to think that the sheriff needed to go to Facebook to locate her," Middleton said. "He has professional detectives under his employment who could have easily found Mrs. Fonseca if they needed to find her."

Fonseca said she first put the sticker on her husband's truck about 11 months ago, voicing her disapproval for Trump's proposed border wall.

She said the message was an expression of her First Amendment rights.
