MANCHESTER, NH (WHDH/CNN) – A pregnant woman in New Hampshire says she killed her roommate’s pet ferret as revenge against the roommate for stealing her clothes.

Ivana Clifford, who is 32 weeks pregnant, was arrested Wednesday after officers responded to a report of smoke in an apartment building caused by a “burnt item” inside an oven.

At the scene, emergency crews found a ferret stuck to the bottom coil of the oven with burn marks on its body.

Clifford’s roommate, Cara Murray, says the woman put her 2-year-old ferret, named Angel, in the oven and turned on the heat, killing her.

"How can someone be so cruel to put an animal in your oven, cooking it alive?” Murray asked.

Officers arrested Clifford, who told them she killed the pet in revenge for Murray stealing her clothes, but Murray says Clifford baked Angel to death because the ferret nipped the woman.

"The reason why she put our ferret in the oven is because Angel bit her, nipped her on the foot – just nipped her, didn't even draw blood – and that was it,” Murray said.

Charged with animal cruelty, Clifford is held on $10,000 bail.

Murray is left mourning the loss of her beloved pet.

"To lose a ferret, it’s like losing a kid or family. I just don't understand. I just can't believe she did that,” Murray said. "We love our animals so much, and we're just devastated."
