TORRANCE, CA (KCAL/KCBS/CNN) - A pizzeria employee in California was fired after an inflammatory anti-police message was left on an officer's receipt.
The Pieology receipt showing the derogatory comment was posted on social media.
The vice president of human resources for the company said they were mortified when they learned about it. They only became aware when the Facebook post went viral.
"The actions of this employee do not in any way reflect the thoughts of Pieology, and we are taking swift and serious action to rectify the situation, including terminating the offending employee," the company said in a statement.
Torrance police said they were upset by the words but more concerned why someone would feel that way about their department.
The now-fired employee that Pieology said is responsible for the note apologized to the officers.
The pizzeria said it will offer food at half price to uniformed service members.
