Police find couple's missing home

Posted

MADISONVILLE, TX (KTRK/CNN) - Imagine going for a visit to your vacation home, and it's just not there anymore.

That's what happened to one couple. They bought a piece of land with a portable cabin on it in 2017 as a getaway from the city.

"It's really hard for me to get that in my head because who steals a house?" said Jo Harrison, the homeowner.

When they went for a visit last week, all that was left was a few blocks and disconnected pipes.

It confused the homeowners and authorities.

"I've never had a house reported stolen in my career. Yeah, this was a little bit unusual," said Sgt. Larry Shiver, Madison County Police.

Police have since solved the case. The person the Harrisons bought the land from still owed money on the house and didn't tell them.

So it wasn't stolen - it was repossessed. Now, the previous owner could face criminal charges for the bum deal.
