A Colerain Township man died and a woman was hurt when a car crashed into a daycare in Green Township Monday night, police said.

"Drugs of abuse appear to be a factor in the crash," police wrote in a prepared statement released overnight.

Crews responded to a report of an accident involving a vehicle hitting Waverly’s Hope Child Care off of Colerain Avenue about 5 p.m.

The driver of a 2005 Ford Taurus crossed into the center turn lane in the 5900 block of Colerain Avenue and hit the rear end of a 2009 Saturn Vue, police said in a prepared statement.

The driver of the Taurus, Daniel Schwartz, 33, backed his vehicle up and then crossed the northbound lanes of traffic, they said. That's when his vehicle ran off the road and crashed into the daycare.

No children inside were hurt.

Colearin Township police were the first to arrive on scene. They administered CPR and Narcan to try to revive Schwartz and a passenger in the back of his vehicle until Green Township medics arrived, police said.

Schwartz was taken to Mercy West Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

A front seat passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to Mercy West Hospital, treated and released.

The rear seat passenger, a 22-year-old woman, refused to be transported by medics.

The occupants of the Saturn were not hurt.

The incident remains under investigation.
