SALT LAKE CITY (KSL/CNN) - Salt Lake City police are apologizing for a controversial arrest of a hospital nurse.
Alex Wubbels was detained for trying to prevent officers from taking blood samples from an unconscious patient.
The nurse was following hospital procedure, and got her supervisor on the phone to back her up.
But video of the incident shows the officer did not accept that response and forcefully removed her from the hospital.
The district attorney says he wants a criminal investigation.
Salt Lake Police Chief Mike Brown said what happened to Wubbels was unacceptable.
"I was alarmed by what I saw in the video," Brown said. "I want to be very clear. We take this very seriously."
Wubbels isn't filing a lawsuit for now and said she accepted the chief's apology.
"I feel strongly giving people the benefit of the doubt," Wubbels said. "I truly believe he was honest in his apology and sincere in trying to make change and make things better."
Police released Wubbels without charges after she sat in a police car for 20 minutes.
The officer at the center of the encounter, detective Jeff Payne, said in a written statement that his watch commander advised him to arrest the nurse for interfering with a police investigation.
Payne and another officer are on administrative leave as internal investigators look into the incident.
