NEW YORK (CNN) - The Public Theater in New York City lost two corporate sponsors on Sunday due to controversy over its staging of William Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar."

Their version includes a gory assassination scene and a ruler who resembles President Donald Trump. Delta Air Lines and Bank of America pulled their support following criticism on social media.

The staging of the play has been criticized by Fox News and one of Trump's sons. It had been in previews but officially opened on Monday.

It features a Julius Caesar who has blonde hair and wears a suit and long tie rather than a toga. The theater posted a statement on their web site about the play. They also responded on Facebook.
