BOSTON (WCVB/CNN) – Rob Gronkowski is a patriot and a gentleman.
That's the way one Massachusetts woman describes him.
Lauren Meizo received a surprise she thought might never happen.
Gronkowski visited Meizo in her hospital room to help cheer her up as she waits for organ transplants.
“Then Gronk came around the corner and I screamed,” said Meizo a transplant patient. “I got up and I gave him a big hug.”
Gronkowski walked into Brigham and Women's Hospital making her wish come true.
"He was so down to earth,” Meizo said. “He was so chill, so personable."
The pair took selfies, danced a little and she even got a peck on the cheek.
Gronkowski also gave Meizo a signed jersey and they spent nearly an hour talking.
"Yeah it was like talking with a friend,” Meizo said. “He was incredible. You can tell he's genuine."
She's waiting for a new heart and kidney, her second organ transplant.
Her story went viral when she asked Gronkowski to the deliver the news that she'd get that transplant.
"I had a feeling he might come, just from all the publicity it got, I wasn't sure, but I was I was hoping he was going to deliver the big news," she said.
He did not come with the announcement she hoped for, but he lifted her spirits and she's hoping day 87 in the hospital is her lucky day.
"We're hoping it happens on Wednesday, that will be day 87 in the hospital, if you know what I mean, praying it happens soon. I'm ready,” she said.
