SACRAMENTO, CA (KMAX/KOVR/CNN) – An Oregon woman was arrested after she began yelling and demanding an airplane land when she was ordered to quit smoking in the bathroom.
Video taken by a passenger who did not wish to be identified shows 24-year-old Valerie Curbelo making death threats on a Southwest flight from Portland, OR, to Sacramento.
"I will f---ing kill everybody on this f---ing plane!" screams the woman in the video. "I swear if you don't f---ing land!"
The incident began after Curbelo attempted to smoke in the airplane bathroom and alter the smoke detector, airline officials say.
The passenger who shot the video says Curbelo was ordered back to her seat but began yelling irrationally, demanding the plane land. He also says Curbelo pushed a flight attendant and had to be physically restrained for the remaining 30 minutes of the flight.
Law enforcement officers were waiting for Curbelo at the gate and arrested her.
From the Sacramento County Jail, Curbelo says she was trying to smoke in the bathroom due to anxiety. She couldn’t clearly say what she was anxious about or why she acted the way she did.
"I don't know. It was not me. It was not me,” Curbelo said.
Curbelo says in the past she has been prescribed medication for her anxiety. She was booked into jail on the charge of making criminal threats.
